Project Charter
The project is jointly owned by Hull City Council under the Local Agenda 21 programme, and by the One World Shop, and will run under the guidelines issued by the Fairtrade Foundation for "Fairtrade Towns".
Project Startup
The project started "officially" on Tuesday 11th March 2003 in the Guildhall, Hull.
The project has roots in Local Agenda 21 which has produced a Hull City Council resolution supporting Fair Trade, and in the Wider Fair Trade Movement evident in Hull, mainly through the Hull One World Shop, but noting the support for the Shop from "far and wide".
The Launch event was the first significant activity organised by the Project Steering Committee.
See About for details.
Project Scope
Our objective is pure and simple, to maximise the sales of Fairly Traded goods. Therefore we will work in Hull and the surrounding area to achieve that objective.
However, the political boundary of Hull will be used as our area when we apply for certification as a Fairtrade City.
SO.
Beverley along with the smaller towns of Cottingham, Hessle, Hedon, Scunthorpe, etc, will all be able to apply for Fair Trade Town Status along with Hull as a Fair Trade City, but the timings will be different.
Project Organisation
The project has a steering group to enable it to achieve the required impact in the city.
See About for details.
Project Approach
As of June 2005, Fairtrade forms a key component of the Wilberforce celebrations planned for 2007.
As at 18th March 2005, the Project is declared a success with certification of Hull as a Fairtrade City.
As at 15 April 2004, the approach below is still being followed, but with the addition of the FAIRTRADE CITY PROJECT - HULL, FAIRTRADE FORUM.
The purpose of the Hull Fairtrade Forum is:
- To bring together all groups who are working to increase Fairtrade in Hull
- To enable people to share their experiences of developing Fair Trade
- To maintain focus on and co-ordination of the Fairtrade City Project Priorities
- To educate and to inspire people to continue the work
See the Project NEWS page for details of meetings and activities.
